What a motherfucking bummer.

Whoa. It’s been a while since we’ve been here on this tumblr, huh? Just wanted to let you know that we record a new song and are releasing it with hopes to raise some money for Respond and Rebuild, who are cleaning up the garbagey moldy mess that Hurricane Sandy left in the Rockaways.
We are not requiring a donation for you to download it (that ain’t our style) but we ARE trying to make you feel guilty…

Where’s that basket full of puppies gonna go if you don’t help?

Also, you’ve only got one more day to donate to a charity for this fiscal year! So shouldn’t you do it? you should! You know you should!!!!!!!
Still bbqin over here in Rochester.
JEFF ROSENSTOCK SOLO “MIXTAPE (?)”

Hey, everyone. In honor of this solo tour I’m doing with my buddies in Andrew Jackson Jihad and Future of the Left, I’ve put together a new solo record. It’s called I Look Like Shit and it’s not so much a rallying cry to start a solo career as much as it is a bunch of new stuff, a bunch of covers and some stuff I’ve been working on the past few years that has never really found its place in the world. Anyway, get it here and come see me on tour pleeeeeeeez thaaaaaaaaaaanx.

HARD GIRLS + REALLY RECORDS!
Our buddies in the band Hard Girls are releasing their first full-length record through Jeff from Bomb the Music Industry’s label REALLY RECORDS!!! We are starting a fundraising campaign to help raise the money for pressing. You should go over to http://hardgirls.reallyrecords.com to learn some more about it and then also PRE-ORDER THIS RECORD! Once our goal is reached we will release this record to the public for fucking free. But online. And let’s face it, how often do you have internet. Like, there’s some seconds where you don’t sometimes, you know.
INCENTIVE!!! HERE’S THE AMAZING VIDEO FOR “MAJOR PAYNE” SHOT BY BOB VIELMA OF SHINOBU AND ASIAN MAN RECORDS FAME. YOU MIGHT KNOW HIM AS BOBOSO.
POST-TOUR-POST
Hey everyone. I’ve been sitting in lil’ office in my apartment working all morning and have decided to take a break to thank everyone for coming out to see us on this tour, especially to those of you who took the time to say hello to us, say nice things, sing along, buy us beer, make us jalapeño tequila (!), give us the local beer or snack in your town, hung out with us although I am pretty confused by the total lack of dance parties and karaoke on this trip, write us letters, let us sleep on your floor even though we were strangers, let us play in your house late after our shows were done, and I don’t know… just keep us company and letting us make some more new friends.
This was a super fun tour. Lots of places we’ve never seen before from cities, to countries to geographical wonders. I believe we did 28 shows in 26 days which is a record for us, but that might be wrong as I do not know how to use a calendar. I’ve got a scar on my hand from trying to make a quesadilla at 3 in the morning in Eureka. John’s got two scars on his hand from trying to open a bottle of wine using a Croc and a streetlight. The rest of us have no new scars I’m pretty sure.
I’ll also ignore the big elephant in the room and say “Uhhhhh WE’LL SEE YOU NEXT TIME REAL SOON OKAY? COMING RIGHT BACK OKAY? COMING RIIIIIIIIGHT BACK. OKAY?”
Seriously though, we had a great time. Thanks for making us feel so welcome, especially in so many new places. Love ya.
— Bomb
WHERE DO YOU WANT US?
We have gotten a lot of nice people saying some very nice things about us. Thank you. We are doing our best to hit a lot of spots one last time, just like we are doing on this tour. So, if you live in a place we have never played, feel bummed out that we will never play there and you can set up a show, please send an e-mail to places@bombthemusicindustry.com. We will do our best to pass through before we hang our hat on the hat hook thing or whatever for good.
ALSO IF YOU BOOK SHOWS ANYWHERE IN EUROPE, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US. WE REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT TO DO A PROPER EUROPE TOUR BEFORE WE ARE DONE.
ok. thanks again.
HERE COME THE WATERWORKS…
This is a weird thing to write that I don’t want to write. But it was agreed on that it would be “mean” if I didn’t… I’ve been putting it off all day, and now that the record collection is alphabetized, all mail-order is done, and my groceries are color-coded seems like I gotta do it. (EDIT: I even waited a full day before posting this. oh boy.)
There’s a very very good chance this upcoming US tour is going to be our last time coming through most of these cities. We all still love each other and love playing music together. There’s no weird rifts or anything. To put it simply, the 9 - 10 months or our lives when we are not playing music are not fantastic. To put it complicatedly, those months are weird vortexes (vortices?) of time where we float in between weird jobs that further us in very little ways as human beings aside from you know, the thrill delivering ten sheets of plexi to celebrity photo shoots (glamorous!) or the satisfaction of doing sound for another Green Day cover band (very glamorous!)… it seems like it’s just time to see if there’s anything out there that can provide us with full-time joy instead of part-time joy.
Keep in mind that Bomb the Music Industry! was never really supposed to be a touring band that put out records, had a steady line-up, made money off of anything, continued anywhere outside of our houses. If it weren’t for the incredibly kind, warm and VERY VERY ENTHUSIASTIC people who have come to see us over the years, we probably would have never really given a shot at touring or playing shows outside of the northeast. And as an added bonus, we’ve met like, all of our best friends scrambling around the country in a van. It’s pretty neat that if we ever feel like running away from all of our problems here in New York and flee to Montana or something, we can call up Grant and go “yo, what’s up, let me crash tonight?” And as a triple-double bonus, the last year or so we’ve made enough money off of this for it to pay a portion of our bills. Didn’t see that coming.
So I guess what I’m saying is words cannot express the gratitude we have for everyone who has helped us out over the years. Big sweaty thanks to everyone. Also keep in mind that things change. I don’t want anyone to think this is some kinda hoax to get people to see us on this trip or whatever, especially if we end up coming back through your town. We are beautiful complicated fucking snowflakes that blow wherever the wind takes us and you better fucking respect that shit, maaaan. That means we get to take this back if we wanna. Million-Day Return Policy. No questions asked.
Also, there’s still a bunch of things we’d like to do and we’re gonna do our best to do ‘em. Hopefully get to some weird countries we’ve never been to, things like that. I also think we’re making a hardcore record in September. Just look at this as a little heads up that this may be our last lap, and it might be a serious minute ‘til we come back to the track.
And just so this isn’t all bad news for Bomb the Music Industry! listeners (and great news for people who’s friends like us, but they can’t stand us at all but their friends just like, keep putting it on and they’re like “change the record please i’m dyinnnnnnnng”) here is a new song/demo/whatever I finished up a month or two ago. It’s called “80’s Through the 50’s.” Enjoy, see ya in the weird world. — Jeff / John / Matt / Mike / Tom
I hear you can’t download it. Now you can download it.
Quick clarification: Just want to re-iterate that there is a *good chance* the last time we’re hitting *most of* these spots. Still *hoping* to do Canada, Europe and Australia before we hibernate. And the north northeast where we’ve never been. And other stuff I bet. It is *probably* the last US tour though. Heads up.
