EVERYBODY THAT WE LOVE

Okay, so we just returned from a monster tour with The Sidekicks and had a great time. I want to thank everyone who let us stay on their floor, who fed us, who showed us around. I don’t have any pictures (yet?) but here are some mentions and such:

STAYING ON THEIR FLOOR:

The parental contingent of the Keegans, the Starinsky’s and the Climers stuffed us full of very tasty food and snacks, as well as provided some nice soft quiet spots to sleep.

I also gotta hand it to the folks at the Dude Ranch in London, Ontario who permitted us to set up a tent (that we had just purchased explicitly with the following purchase) in their backyard to smoke the two fistfuls of free weed we were blessed with one day before crossing the border. Our dear friends Julie and Tony in St. Louis also win a prize for providing us with the most food while we were pretty fucked up sitting on their porch. SEVEN LAYER DIP?! FOR REAL?!

I think the worst job hanging out award goes to all of us after the Los Angeles show, when we crashed at our dear friends Chris Candy and Hiro Tanaka’s house, I think we all took a few sips of beer and fell asleep where we were sitting. What a Saturday night!

SPEAKING OF EATING:

Holy shit was it a surprise yesterday when we were fed Feed the Scene. They had said something on our Facebook about it, and I expected some chili or curry (the usual tasty treats that are provided to us by kind souls) but they had full out SUSHI FOR US! PLUS vegetarian sushi! PLUS vegan sushi!!! It was super taaaasty. Otherwise, the poutine in Ottawa that Evan took us to was pretty tight, the green chile in Albuquerque made me kinda sick but tasted alright and the cajun food in Indy made me very sick but tasted very good.

Also, Zack from Dead North gave us all FREE BURRITOS at Chipotle cause his mom won some crazy contest. Speaking of free burritos, Illegal Pete’s in Denver ALSO hooked us up with free burritos, which after free BBQ at the show at Moe’s the night before made Denver the MOST FREE FOOD CITY! Owen from Santa Rosa made us some really good vegan soba with delicious peanut sauce that I forgot the recipe of. Grant in Montana BBQed us up some real tasty stuff which we washed down with some OTHER real tasty stuff… that’s right, Beer 30 Ice. And of course Minus World and their beer battered fries as well as maybe the best veggie burger I’ve ever eaten. I’m getting fatter just thinking about all of this.

BUT THE WINNERS ARE:

The winner of best people we met on tour goes to four strangers who I don’t think will ever see this website or we will ever bump into again. But basically, we went to Tijuana after our San Diego show on a whim. None of us had ever been there before (except maybe Matt Keegan, I forget). We were immediately taken to a strip club by our cab driver, who clearly didn’t understand our request of “we don’t want to go to a strip club”, where there were men dressed up as cavemen begging us to come in for a “free sample.” After we were followed for a block or so we managed to lose them and find a few divey bars, where it seemed every beer we ordered was a 40 ouncer. After some time, we bumped into some girls who were FROM Tijuana but currently lived in San Diego and were visiting Tijuana for the summer. We hung out for a while, relishing in the opportunity to speak English as we are all pretty dumb bilingually speaking, and after we were thrown out of the bar at 5:30 they led us through a weird parking garage which ended up being the entrance for an after hours dance club that was playing traditional Mexican music. They tried to show us how to dance, told me personally that I really need to loosen up, and made sure that we didn’t drink the bottle of tequila the man was trying to pour into our mouths, as it apparently would have cost more money than we had.

Good time was had by all. We crossed the border fuuuucked up. I declared the two pieces of candy I had in my pocket. John asked where the bathroom was. I’m not sure the other two even said anything.

There are a lot of stories that I’ve left out here, but there always are. Fuck you to everyone who acted like a bigot as there was seriously one in almost every town. But take that fuck you in stride, bigots, and let’s try to solve the problem! Thanks to everyone who put us up, ran our shows, fed us, loved us, boozed us, drugged us, etc. We love you. Don’t fight it.

And of course, big ups to The Sidekicks, the finest four folks to be on a tour with. We’ve heard their new record and it is insanely good so make sure you remember that when it comes out.

Now, time to buy some saran wrap to make a trap for all the fruit flies that have bred in my absence…
